Does Longfields Pharmacy carry FreeStyle Libre and Dexcom CGM devices and sensors?

Yes. We stock FreeStyle Libre readers and sensors, as well as Dexcom CGM systems and supplies. We can also help you understand your provincial and private insurance coverage for these devices, as coverage has expanded significantly in Ontario in recent years. Call 613-440-9199 to confirm current stock and check if your benefits apply.

What is MedsCheck for Diabetes and am I eligible?

MedsCheck for Diabetes is a free, government-funded annual pharmacist consultation available to Ontario residents who have been diagnosed with diabetes and are taking at least one diabetes medication. During this appointment, your pharmacist reviews all your medications, provides education about your condition, addresses concerns, and gives you a written action plan. It takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes and is conducted in private.

Are test strips and lancets covered by OHIP or ODB?

Ontario's Drug Benefit (ODB) program covers glucose test strips for eligible patients, including those on insulin and certain other diabetes medications. Coverage depends on your medication type and ODB eligibility. Many private insurance plans also cover diabetes supplies. Our pharmacists can review your coverage and submit claims on your behalf. Call 613-440-9199 for personalized assistance.

Can I get my insulin and diabetes medications delivered to my home?

Absolutely. Longfields Pharmacy offers free prescription delivery throughout Ottawa and surrounding areas including Nepean and Barrhaven. We can arrange regular scheduled deliveries of your insulin, oral diabetes medications, and supplies such as pen needles and test strips so you never miss a dose or run out of supplies.

Can your pharmacist help me understand how to use my insulin pen or CGM device?

Yes, absolutely. Our pharmacists provide hands-on training for insulin pens, auto-injectors, and CGM devices including FreeStyle Libre and Dexcom. We walk through how to apply sensors, interpret readings, troubleshoot device issues, and integrate CGM data into your daily management routine. No question is too basic — we are here to make sure you feel fully confident.
